UF-CTA Background Information:
The Center for Tropical Agriculture was established at the University of Florida (UF) in 1965 to:
- Attract international students by providing an opportunity for graduate education in agricultural disciplines relevant to the needs of the impoverished countries of the developing world.
- Provide an institutional mechanism to highlight and gather together UF's unique capacity in tropical agriculture to attract funding support for provision of technical assistance to the developing world
- Lead the development of a coherent portfolio of tropical agricultural research to support graduate education and to solve the problems of the tropical nations of the developing world while also contributing to the tropical agricultural priorities of the state of Florida.
